What to wear {family portraits}: Accessorize!!!

by ayphotodesign on March 1, 2011

This post is all about accessorizing! If you haven’t noticed, accessories are a great way to bring  about that extra “je ne sais quoi” (I don’t know what’s special but there is) in your photos. Of course, don’t overdo it.  We don’t want to look like we’re trying too hard but we do want it to look…fabulous! If you’re paying to have you and/or your family photographed, you want nothing less right?

So, what kind of accessories? Well, you’re probably familiar with the usual hats, scarves, shoes, jewelry, socks, tights, leggings, etc.  Here’s some modern takes on some of the usual…

I just love ties! They’re especially cute on the little ones but honestly, they’re great on everyone (mom, dad, and sis too). Oooohhh, here’s an idea, the whole fam wearing ties! Remember, it doesn’t have to exactly match. Click for more here for full post

What to Wear {family portraits}: Color!!!!

by ayphotodesign on September 3, 2010

As you’ve probably noticed if you’ve read these posts before, I love getting ideas of what to wear from actual photos I’ve come across from favorite photographers and/or sites I frequent.  Today, i’ll be talking about color.  Personally, I LOVE COLORS! I haven’t always loved color but now…I-LOVE-IT!!!

Here’s a few tips for those of you trying to figure out what to wear to your family’s photography shoot.

1. Think color! What colors look best on you? What colors best fit the season you’re in?

If you don’t have a clue, do what I do, research it on the internet or look at magazines for inspiration . Get inspired!  I love looking at family photographers and checking out their photos for ideas on what to their clients are wearing.  This way, I can get some great ideas on a color scheme or color combination I may not have thought of on my own.

For example, I love the colors I found here from Amelia Lyon and Blue Lilly Photography…(click here for full post)

What to wear (family portraits)…

by ayphotodesign on June 16, 2010

SO I haven’t been great at posting these the way that I had hoped. I did say i’d try to post these (“what to wear”) on a weekly basis but I realized it would  be an amazing feat if I could even post these once a month.  Anyway, here are photos that I’ve come across from a couple of my favorite photographers where wardrobe definitely caught my eye. Hope they give you some great inspirations to your wardrobe ware!

If you take a look at this family’s photo session*, you’ll find that they went on the  matching route but I just loved how they did it. They always had something that broke up the monotony yet still tied everything together…(click here for full post)

Family portraits and…what NOT to wear?!

by ayphotodesign on April 22, 2010

I recently took family portraits with a friend photographer living in Athens, GA.  It was a lot of fun but i’ll have to say that preparing for the shoot was a bit stressful.  It took me a few weeks to pick what my whole family would be wearing.  I don’t know about you but I didn’t want to leave it totally up to my husband to decide what he’d wear that day let alone give me some advice as to what he thinks I or the kids should wear.  Not that he doesn’t dress well… but since we don’t often take family portraits, I wanted to make the most of this time we had.   It’s probably a good thing that he doesn’t have an opinion either way and leaves it up to me to decide.  I did ask him once to be sure to make him feel included…”What would you like to wear [to the shoot] honey?” and his response was “Whatever you’d like me to wear.” (My husband knows me so well?)

So it (my planned color coordinating wardrobe) wasn’t perfect but it all worked out.  I think our family’s personality and dynamics totally came through this process and I loved the end result…(click here for full post)
