15 Kids’ Valentine’s Photo Cards & Treats

I can’t believe Valentine’s is just around the corner! Didn’t we just celebrate the new year! I’ve tried to hold off on thinking about it as long as I can but now my kids have Valentine’s parties next week and we’re going to have to work on these Valentines this weekend.  It’s time to finally decide on what my kids will be sharing with friends (and even family).

Personally, I love personalized cards though I don’t always have time to help make them. Before I share these Valentine ideas with you, I want to preface all of this to say that there’s is totally nothing wrong with using store bought cards and/or treats.  As someone who has definitely bought them and used them just a couple of years ago, I definitely understand when someone just doesn’t have the time to make something themselves. Having said that, I do love finding ideas that my children and I can work on together.  Since it is something that means a lot to them, I do want to spend some time thinking and helping them make whatever it is (when I can make the time). And since I love taking photos, I do love cards that  combine a photo with a treat (and  the treat doesn’t have to be sweet).

So here are 15 Valentine’s photo cards and treats that I’ve found and wanted to share with you.

This first photo is of a Valentine card I helped my son make that he gave to friends in school last year. This card was inspired by the Butterfly Valentine here. That butterfly was created using the template that was provided in the link and the rest of the card was made using photoshop.

I also created the photocard/tag below that my daughter attached to ring pops for her class. It’s a variation of the idea here

For the girls she had “You’re the Real Gem!”…

and for the boys we wrote “A Ring for a King!”lifelovevday9560

With the rest of these ideas, you can click directly on the photo and you’ll be directed to the related blog post.

This is to Grandma and Grandpa but you can easily just replace it with a friend’s name. And how about punching a hole on the corner and tying a ribbon around it and attaching it to a bottle of bubbles! =) Or for a sweet treat you can just tie the ribbon around a baggie of Hershey “kisses”. =)

And here’s another Yummy Valentine

and check out this Valentine’s Crush!

Of course, depending on the age(s) of your child(ren), they may not want their photos on the cards. Fortunately, my kids are still at the age where they love this stuff! =)

A Dreamer of the Day…

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. – T.E. Lawrence

My little buddy doesn’t always take a nap unless he’s really, really tired. This particular day he asked to go upstairs and said he needed a nap. After a little while I head upstairs to check on him.

I found him asleep and wearing his train engineering cap (he definitely wasn’t wearing it earlier).

I think he wanted to dream about trains! =)

Family Fun: Ring around a rosy

It’s a busy week so it’s nice to have some help with ideas of a fun but short post.  Here’s a photo that immediately came to mind when I saw that this week’s I Heart Faces photo challenge was “Family Fun”.

Little C just loved holding hands with mommy & daddy, moving in a circle, chanting a rhyme, and finally falling down.

Who doesn’t love this game & rhyme?

“Ring around a rosy, pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, we all fall down”…

The C Family

Another fun family session I shot early this Fall! Part of the reason why I love photography…the amazing families and people I get to meet.

J &A, it was such a pleasure meeting you both! You’ve got a beautiful family!

Until next time!

I’m back!!!

With birthdays and Halloween in October, this past month was the start of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season for this mama. I just feel that things really get busy and there seems to be no end until until after Christmas.  And this seems to be so much more true with three children rather than the two I started with in the beginning of the year.   So here I am, trying to finally get back into the swing of my blog though it would probably be more correct to say that this swing has come to a complete halt.  Sigh. But hey!…I’m back and I guess that’s what matters.

So I thought I’d start with sharing a few photos I took over a month ago of my cousin who was expecting baby #2.   I say “was” because Baby J arrived a few weeks ago and I’ll be taking pictures of the beautiful princess in the next week or so.

Looking forward to sharing more sessions with you!

Until next time…

Liam: The little warrior & his amazing family

I have to preface this by saying that I’ve had the most difficult time writing this post! Honestly, I’ve been working on this post for weeks.  This is probably the hardest post I’ve had to write.   It’s not that I don’t have the pictures to share with you edited and ready to go. On the contrary, I’ve had these pictures done for a few weeks now. I think my struggle comes from the fact that I’ve had the opportunity to get a glimpse into the life of an amazing family and trying to summarize in words what I saw with my eyes and felt with my heart just seems impossible.

How do you share about a family that has a child who is battling for his life? How do you find words worthy to share about a family that loves, laughs and finds joy even through a storm?

I’m not a writer by nature and so rather than try and use words that seem to fall short, I’ll just share a few things about this family (with their permission) and then just jump into sharing some photos from this session that hopefully give you a glimpse into & understanding of why this family has touched my heart.

This is Liam!

Liam is a warrior! At just 3 months old, Liam had his first seizure.  He was just a little over 6 months old when I took these pictures of him and his family. He is currently diagnosed with infantile spasms (seizures) and cerebral atrophy though mitochondrial disease is still being ruled out.  His infantile spasms (or seizures) last 1-2 seconds and can occur once or in a cluster of 5-20 on a daily basis.  Liam is improving everyday but his family is hoping that with his seizure medication, managed diet, and physical therapy, their little warrior will be able to hold his head up again and eat from a bottle one day soon. (Update: He’s beginning to be able to take a few ounces of food from a bottle! Yay!!!)

The siblings…

Liam’s big sister M!

I love how this photo just captures her breathing him in!

The beautiful family of 4!

Big sister M was eventually getting tired of me taking pictures but dad was wonderful at helping me keep his little princess smiling.

Eventually M was done and left the scene but it gave us a chance to capture mom & dad with their sweet angel warrior.

Daddy and his little princess…

Sweet daddy rocking his tired baby…

Time to get the little warrior down for his nap…

And this has to be one of my favorite series of shots from the day! Mommy and her princess…

giving kisses…

and being silly!

More pure sweetness…

If you’re reading this and are touched by this family as well, I know Liam and his family could sure use your prayers!!

Thanks for reading everyone!

Until next time…

p.s.   S+M, you both are such wonderful parents… full of love, hope and strength! I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in your shoes but I know Liam is the warrior that he is because of the two of you!

Please know that Liam and your family are in my prayers! And even my children, though they haven’t met the little warrior, pray for him every night.

Bright & Vivid: I Heart Faces {Challenge}

Having started over with a new baby in our home, it’s been a bit harder to keep up with blogging (and photography for that matter) but I’m so grateful that there are people/sites out there that make it easy for me to share some pictures with you without thinking to hard about what to share! This week’s  I Heart Faces (IHF) challenge is Bright & Vivid.

I found this photo I took a while back for a people photography class.  This photo was shot for the topic of environmental portraiture, portraits taken of people in a situation that they live in (work, rest or play) and/or a place that says something about who they are.   After one of my son’s usual haircuts, I asked the hairstylist if she wouldn’t mind taking a photo for me.  This was the shot I got…

I love environmental portraiture!  Whether it’s photojournalism or environmental portraiture, these are the kinds of shots I love…shots that capture my family/friends or clients life and will later be photos that remind them of what life is like and/or who they were at this particular point in time of their lives.

If you’d like to learn a little more about environmental portraiture, there’s a simple but great post from Digital Photography School that discusses this very topic. Check it out HERE.
