I thought i’d share a collage I created as a surprise gift for my cousin’s son’s baptism. I put together several photos taken from a shoot during her pregnancy and the baby at 4 weeks old. The overall green background with the white tree and leaves is a photo taken from a mural (painted by her brother) in the baby’s room. I had this collage printed into a 16×20 and we framed this in a beautiful but simple black gallery style frame.
This is a great way to save on the cost of matting and framing. Using Photoshop or GIMP (the GNU Image Manipulation Program), a few related favorite pictures, and some simple editing, cropping, and creating simple borders into your photograph, you can create a similar matting effect without the price of having it custom matted. Of course, some people prefer actual mattes but I think this works just as well especially if you’re on a budget.
